Clarinda A's Update Through May 28th - Stats and Box Scores Coming Soon
First, our apologies for not having the scores, stats, etc. up on the site yet. We are experiencing some “technical difficulties” with the automated scorebook since we have put it on a new laptop and have lost our past statistician. Please bear with us as we hope to have the problems resolved within the next week.
Weather has been a factor in this first week of the season – on Saturday, May 24 a strong wind and rain storm came through in the morning, stripping the tarp from the field and blowing in a portion of the centerfield fence (see photo HERE). We did find that we have some good workers on the team as they got the fence back up in time for the game on the 25th. Got the first game in, but the second one was called in the top of the 4th inning due to heavy rain, lightening and wind – in fact, we were in a tornado warning – no damages though and we were able to get a double header in on Memorial Day. In the first game on Sunday, the A’s won 5-2. Marsalis Charles got the win and Dustin Lloyd, the save. The starting line up was Mike Ghutzman, c; Alex Johnson, 1b; Ryan Peterson, 2b; Jake Rowell, 3b; Leroy Urbina, ss; Brandon Mikkelson, lf; John Fugazi, cf and Jack Wortley, rf. Jason Munoz came in at shortstop in the 6th inning. On Monday the A’s dominated in the two games, winning 13-0 in the first contest in 7 innings and 12-0 in 5 innings in the second. Chad McLin pitched the entire first game for the win. Centerfielder Fugazi scored four runs in the game, having a double, walking twice and being hit by a pitch. In the second game Elroy Urbina got the win and DH Jake Rowell scored three times, having a single, home run and walking. Ryan Peterson was 3-3 with a double and two singles. Wednesday, May 28 the A’s had their first loss 4-2 to Omaha Diamond Spirit. David Small gave up three runs in the two innings even though he struck out five. Stephen Szkotak gave up only one in his four innings and Jack Wortley finished the game, giving up no runs. Justin Fazio was 2-4, with Jake Rowell, Brandon Mikkelson and Jason Munoz having the only other hits for the A’s. The team travels to Junction City, Ks Friday and Saturday for non-league games and on to Topeka, Ks for the first MINK League game on Sunday, June 1 before returning home for a league contest with Chillicothe Mudcats on the second.
