Off to a fast start, it looked like the Clarinda A’s were going to continue on that same path as they traveled to Chillicothe Tuesday, June 5 for a MINK League game. Last season the Mudcats had been the A’s nemesis, taking all games in their series, but Clarinda was able to use timely hitting and good pitching to down them 5-1.
    
Returning home proved to be a different story as the FCA/KC Grays came to town Wednesday, June 6. Leading 5-2 going into the 7th inning, the A’s hit a wall, giving up 10 runs on only 4 hits with 4 walks and two hit batsmen. Although Clarinda was able to come up with 3 runs in the ninth they lost 16-8.
    
Things did not improve when the Ozark Generals came to town for three games Thursday, June 7, sweeping the series 7-2, 10-0 and 10-2, dropping the A’s to 2-4 in league play.
    
Saturday the Omaha Cubs were in Clarinda for a non-league contest. Chris Court stuck out 8 in the 8 innings he pitched and gave up only two runs with Kevin Dwyer coming in to close, giving up one hit. Balanced hitting by the A’s gave them the win 9-2.
    
Sunday evening the A’s battled the Beatrice Bruins, the visitors getting on the board first with two runs in the 3rd inning. Clarinda came back in the 6th to tie the game when John Fugazi reached on an error, advanced to third on a single by Taylor who then stole second. David Bachofner hit a sacrifice fly to score Fugazi and Taylor scored on a single by Jimmy Mittleberger.  Beatrice was able to score again in the 7th and held the A’s only one hit the rest of the way to take the MINK League game 3-2.
     
This week is busy for the A’s as they hosted Chillicothe Monday, traveled to Beatrice Tuesday, have a home game versus Omaha DJ Dugout before hitting the road for a single league game in Topeka and three with the Ozark Generals.
