A's Update 6-25-2007The Clarinda A’s had another good week even though they started with a loss to Beatrice Bruins Tuesday, June 19 after a day off. The Bruins were able to take the game 8-4 with the A’s able to score two runs in the first inning, one in the fourth and one in the fifth. Beatrice put seven runs on the board in the first three innings and a single one in the seventh. Brandon Hayes went 3-4 for the A’s. FCA/KC Grays came to town for a league game Wednesday and the A’s won 7-2 giving up only 6 hits. Both John Fugazi and David Bachofner went 3-5 on the night for the A’s. Clarinda was able to take one from the league leading Beatrice Bruins Thursday in Clarinda 7-2. Todd Vogel pitched seven strong innings giving up just one run, with Scott Chew and Frank Zenisek finishing the final two innings. Jimmy Swift was 3-4 and Brandon Mikkelson and Keith Hustedt 2-4. On the road in Topeka, Clarinda took another league game 11-5 Friday. Grant Campbell was the winning pitcher. Hustedt again had the big bat, going 4-6, with Brian Taylor 3-5. Saturday the A’s traveled to Kearney, MO to meet the FCA/KC Grays and came away with a 5-3 victory. Jimmy Mittleberger who was 2-4 at the plate, also had a home run. Clarinda hosted Omaha Diamond Spirit Sunday, getting a 7-4 win in the non-league contest. Kevin Mills and Leo Garcia each had home runs for the A’s. This week the A’s were open on Monday, traveled to Liberty, MO to meet the FCA/KC Grays Tuesday and will host Nebraska Sport in Shenandoah this Wednesday in a game sponsored by their Optimist’s Club. They will be on the road again Thursday at Chillicothe and in Omaha Friday for a game with Diamond Spirit. Saturday will feature a home game with Topeka Golden Giants and Omaha DJ Dugout will be in town to kick off Parent’s week Sunday, July 1. The A’s will travel to Carroll Monday, July 2 before coming home for the Independence Day fireworks display following the Beatrice Bruins game Tuesday, July 3. They will host Diamond Spirit on the 4th of July. Clarinda’s overall record is now 21-8 and they are 11-7 in MINK League play.
