Clarinda A’s 37th annual Hall of Fame banquet date is set for Saturday, January 14, 2012Clarinda A’s 37th annual Hall of Fame banquet date is set for Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Clarinda Academy Activities Center. 4:30 - Doors Open to view silent auction items 5:30 - Autograph session w/ Ozzie Smith and Von Hayes 6:30 - Dinner and program - Q&A w/ Ozzie Smith, Von Hayes, and scouts closes the evening From the desk of Mrs. EFrom the desk of Mrs. E., The last time I wrote was two and a half years ago when Merl had been hospitalized almost a month for another surgery after damage had been caused by his chemo/radiation therapy. We feel the time we had between that episode in his life till his death June 11th was bonus time. For some reason, the good Lord saw fit to give him these extra years and months and they were important to us as a family and those of you who knew him well. For the family it gave Merl an opportunity to spend time with each of our children and grandchildren individually, especially these last two months. For others, it gave him time to let them know they mattered in his life. That is a luxury not many people have as their lives come to a close. We are so grateful that we were able to keep him at home the entire time - our faith continued to grow and the importance of a close family and friends was even more evident than before. To our baseball family and friends - you have been incredible in the support & love you have shown during his illness and passing - we are so humbled by the number of you who were able to be at visitation and the "celebration of life" service - and for those of you unable to attend, it was truly that, a celebration. Following the church service we went to the ball field for a cookout and fellowship - felt it was the fitting place for his life's "ninth inning" to end. Thanks again for all the support & love sent our way - may God bless each of you. 2011 SEASON TO BE 57TH YEAR THE CLARINDA A's TAKE THE FIELDMany Improvements Made At Stadium Anticipation builds as the time draws closer for the opening of the Clarinda A's 57th consecutive baseball action. Clarinda A's Alumni Day to Honor 1981 NBC National ChampionsIn honor of the 1981 Clarinda A’s National Championship, the board has set Saturday, July 2 as Alumni Day with special emphasis on getting as many of the 1981 team here as possible. There will be introduction of all alumni attending that night as well as an alumni game at 5:00 prior to the A’s game with Carroll. Will be sending out letters to the 81 team and would appreciate if all alumnus would contact their former teammates as we know we have lost track of some of you. Please RSVP to m.eberly @ mchsi.com or to the team website so we will know how many to plan on. Hope to hear from many of you soon – the last alumni game was a lot of fun and much reminiscing was done during that time. 36th Annual Clarinda A's Hall of Fame Banquet - 250 Brave the ElementsWinter weather didn't deter attendance at 36th annual Hall of Fame banquet Despite frigid temperatures and three to five inches of snow coming down Saturday, January 22 over 250 people braved the elements for the 36th annual Clarinda A's Hall of Fame banquet, coming from nine states.
