Spectacular catch sparks Clarinda to win -

Clarinda (Iowa) left fielder John Fugazi chose to go for the spectacular instead of the safe and it paid off.

His diving catch in the seventh inning helped choke off a Gunnison (Colo.) rally and keep the A's on cruise control for a 13-4 win over the Colts in an elimination game at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in the rain-delayed NBC World Series.

"We've been swinging the bat pretty well all year," Clarinda manager Ryan Eberly said. "It's just a matter of if we field it or pitch it. That's been our problem all summer."

Not Saturday.

Starter Reese McCulley held Gunnison scoreless until the fifth. Reliever Zack Taylor dominated for three perfect innings.
