A's Induct 2024 Hall of Fame Members

By P Eberly

Each year the A’s induct new members into their Hall of Fame – ours is a bit unique and for those of you not familiar with the program, it is not just the ball players who are recognized – it also includes those who have contributed to Clarinda baseball in other ways as well –serving on the board or auxiliary, opening their homes to the “boys of summer”, those who have been exemplary in their financial support, the media and yes, even umpires. This year’s inductees all represent those making contributions to the program that make a difference.

Our first inductees were introduced to the A’s through Ozzie and his involvement with the charitable work of the St Louis police – a law enforcement officer and his family who met the Eberly’s at spring training. From that day forward they have become good friends and actively given generously to the A’s program. From St Louis, Mo Bill and Barb Baldwin. Bill passed a little over a year ago.  Accepting the award are Barb, and son Brian.

A little over 9 years ago, the Eberly family grew when this young lady became an in-law and has become a real asset to both the family and the A’s serving as a houseparent, a big help with sisters-in-law to keep the concession stand running, organizing A’s merchandise and publicity and stepping in whenever help is needed –from Clarinda Cassie Eberly.

Next is a couple from St. Joseph, Mo who had no idea what their daughter’s marriage and move to Clarinda would entail. It would see them  become big A’s fans and donate generously to keep the program going. Bob and Marcy Colescott.

Our final inductee lived away from Clarinda until recently and with his move back to SW Iowa saw him follow in his father Lawrence’s footsteps of being involved with the improvement of the A’s facilities. As a member of the All Class Reunion Committee he suggested that the money left over be used for a larger flag and taller flagpole for the field, placed so it was seen by all the athletic fields and play and picnic areas. He also
began work on the concession stand, rewiring it, putting in new lighting inside and out, as well as many other improvements, refusing to take any payment for his time
or supplies. Andy Higgins.
