Clarinda A's Baseball

Clarinda A’s will host the 33rd annual Hall of Fame and Recognition banquet Saturday, January 12, 2008 at the Clarinda Academy Activities center.      

As in the past there will be a silent auction of sports memorabilia, an autograph session with the guest celebrities, induction of new Hall of Fame members, recognition of the traveling youth baseball teams and dinner. This has always been a popular event and has been well attended by not only the local community, but many in the surrounding area. Admission tickets to the event are available to the public.
       
Darrell Murphy, announcer for the A’s games during the summer, will serve as Master of Ceremonies and Clarinda mayor Gordon Kokenge will be on hand to present the awards to the new Hall members. A’s board president Gary Ulmer give the welcome and Manager Ryan Eberly will speak about the past season.
       
Former A’s player Ozzie Smith the guest celebrity, along with Bill Clark (former professional scout) and his wife from Columbia, MO, Bob Steinkamp, Beatrice Bruins manager and professional scout and Jerry Taylor, tournament director for the National Baseball Congress World Series. Smith is was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002 and earned many honors during his 19 year major league career with the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals.
      
He, with the professional scouts, will take part in a question/answer session to close out the activities at the banquet.
       
Doors will open at 4:30 pm for those wishing to view auction items, with the autograph session to being at 5:30, followed by dinner at approximately 6:30 and the program.

Tickets are on sale. Advanced tickets are $16 for students K-12 and $20 for adults. At the door they will be $20 and $25. Ticket is good for one autograph from each visiting celebrity, dinner and access to bidding at the silent auction. Extra autographs will be $20. All proceeds from this event go into the A’s operating budget.
