Word has been received of the death of Jeff Peterson, a member of the Clarinda A's team in 1981 and 1982.
Peterson had a fatal heart attack Saturday, February 3 following a golf outing. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 9 at Christ the King in Pleasant Hill, CA.
A pitcher on the A's NBC championship team in 1981, he compiled a 7-1 record that season while striking out 100 in 81 2/3 innings and walked only 35. In 1982 he compiled a 12-1 record which continues to be the leading won/loss record in A's history, striking out 115 in 82 1/3 innings and walking only 30.
In 2001 he, along with A's and St Mary's teammate Matt Castello, were inducted into the Clarinda Baseball Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of one year, Irene, and his sister and brother in law, Julie and Ben Foreman, and family.
