Clarinda A's Baseball

(St Joseph) -- The Clarinda A's won their fifth consecutive game on Thursday night with a 2-1 victory over the St Joseph Mustangs.

Jake Meloche scattered nine hits through seven innings, allowing a single run and striking out six Mustang batters. However, it wasn't until a two-run seventh that the A's made a winner out of Meloche.

With two outs in the seventh, and the A's down 1-0, Dean Long came through with a go-ahead two-RBI hit to score D'Marco Poindexter and Blake Trahan. The hit was Long's second of the night, and it was enough for the A's to grab another win.

Cody Ponder pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for the save.

The A's will take Friday off before a road game in Omaha against the Diamond Spirit on Saturday and will close the regular season on Sunday at home against Sedalia.
