Clarinda A’s 40th annual Baseball Hall of Fame banquet is set for Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Clarinda Academy Activities Center beginning at 5:00 with viewing of the silent auction items and autograph session with guest celebrities.
Headlining the event will be former A’s players Ozzie Smith, 2002 National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, who played most of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals; Von Hayes, an All-Star player who spent most of his career with the Philadelphia Phillies; Darrell Miller, played for the California Angels and is currently director of Major League Baseball’s Urban Youth Academy, also an official speaker for Catholic Athletes for Christ; and Brian Poldberg, now manager of the Omaha Storm Chasers who recently won the Triple A National Championship . Mike Arbuckle, Senior Advisor to the General Manager of the Kansas City Royals/Scouting and Player Development, will also be in attendance and participate in the question/answer session to close out the evenings events. There are possibly other former A’s who have or are playing in the majors who may also be coming.
Advance tickets for the event are $20 for students K-12 and $25 for adults. At the door, they will be $30 and $25. They are good for the dinner, one autograph from each visiting player and a bidding number for the silent auction of sports memorabilia. Each additional autograph will be $25. There will also be a live auction for selected items.
There will be recognition of the local traveling youth baseball teams, the High School team and A’s Manager Ryan Eberly will give a recap of last year’s season and outlook for the coming 61st season, as well as induction of new members to the Hall of Fame.
