Clarinda A's to Celebrate 61st Season!

Baseball is in full swing with the colleges in the final weeks of their seasons and Major League teams just beginning theirs and the Clarinda A’s management and board of directors is gearing up for their 61st season.

The A’s will open the season with a road game in the MINK League at St. Joe on Friday, May 29 and their home opener with a non-league contest with Kansas City Monarchs Saturday, May 30.

This year will see a different look to the MINK League as Omaha Diamond Spirit has discontinued their program. This will change the alignment of the divisions with Sedalia Bombers to move to the North with Clarinda A’s, St. Joseph Mustangs and Chillicothe Mudcats and the South to have Branson Nationals, Nevada Griffons, Ozark Generals and Joplin Outlaws. A new non-league team from Spooner, WI is also on the schedule with them to play their home games in Carroll, IA.

July 4th weekend will see the annual Parents’ Weekend with fireworks on Friday, July 3 which is a free night sponsored by Clarinda Academy. On Saturday the 4th there will be a morning golf tournament open to the public -8:30 Shotgun, 4 person Texas Best Shot, $200 per team followed by a 2:00 game with Spooner. To register for the golf tournament, you can contact the Clarinda Country Club (712) 542-5417 or Brenda Samuelson (712) 542-8892. On Sunday the 5th a picnic will be held for the team, visiting parents, houseparents, board and auxiliary members.

Other free nights are Wednesday, June 3 by the Clarinda Chamber of Commerce; Wednesday, June 17, Hy-Vee and Saturday, June 20, Subway. Prior to the Sunday, June 7th game the A’s will be having a brief program commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII with an invitation to all area veterans to join us for that event. Baseball Day will be held Saturday, June 27. Hy-Vee will be sponsoring the $100 Baseball Toss again this season and free Baseball Bingo will still be played at each home game. Clarinda A’s youth baseball clinic will be held at Clarinda Municipal Stadium/Eberly Field Thursday, May 28-Saturday, May 30. Forms are available at the Clarinda Lied Center.

Clarinda A’s manager Ryan Eberly is excited about the upcoming season: “A few of last year’s team will be returning and I feel we have done a good enough job of recruiting to see us return to the NBC World Series and be very competitive in MINK League play.” Jeff Clark, president of the A’s board of directors, encourages all to come out to support the A’s this summer. “As most of you know, there is a very family-friendly environment at the ball park. I think you will enjoy the games and all the activities associated with the A’s and hope you come and enjoy.” He continued, “of the 49 total games slated this season, 26 of them are at home so hope to see you there.”

If you have not been contacted and would like to have either a fence sign, ad in the yearbook or poster schedule, please contact Pat Eberly at (712) 542-4272 soon as the printing deadline is approaching. A big thanks to all the businesses and industry that continue to support the program.
