(Clarinda) -- Outfielder Danny Mitchell loves to play baseball. A chance to hone his skills and play the game he loves all summer brought him from Little Rock, where he just completed his redshirt freshman year, to Clarinda.

"I love playing for the A's," Mitchell said on Upon Further Review's latest Meet the A's segment. "I'm enjoying it, having a blast. The team has a lot of characters on it, and I love it. It's hard to play a game of failure without having some fun."

Mitchell played in 34 games this spring, starting 21 of them, and finished with a .268/.318/.354 line in 82 at bats. He finished the year with five doubles, one triple and scored 16 runs.

"It wasn't a bad season," Mitchell said. "It could have gone worse, could have gone better. I expect to do a lot more next year, and I'm trying to get better here in Clarinda so I can go perform."

Mitchell found Clarinda through his Little Rock hitting coach Russell Raley, whose brother Cory played for the A's.

"(He) is actually playing pro baseball overseas," Mitchell said, "so it turned out good for him. (Russell Raley) talked highly of Clarinda and asked if I wanted go. I said, 'Absolutely.'"

Mitchell hopes to continue to fine-tune all aspects of his game this summer.

"You can never be satisfied," he said. You can always get better at something. There's defense, there's running, there's hitting. There's everything. I'm trying to get better at it all."

The A's are off Friday and will be back home on Saturday and Sunday for a meeting with the Ozark Generals. Saturday night's game starts at 7:00 while Sunday is a doubleheader beginning at 2:00.

Meet the A's can be heard each Tuesday and Thursday through the summer on KMA's Upon Further Review, which airs daily from 11 AM to 12 PM.
