Clarinda A's will be playing in the 84th NBC World Series Championship Week in Wichita Friday August 3 at 7:00 at Lawrence Dumont Stadium. Pool play in the tournament which began July 27 with two teams qualifying for the final week with 14 at-large bids. Clarinda will be in Pool C with Hays KS Larks who they meet in the first round game, San Diego CA Stars and Wellington KS Heat. They will play again Sunday, August 5 and Tuesday, August 7, with possible games on the 8th, 10th and 11th. This is the final year for the tournament to be played in Dumont Stadium as it will be torn down and replaced with a new venue.
The A's first qualified for the tournament in 1973 and have only missed 8 years of participation, the last being 2013 when they finished 4th. Through the years they have consistently been in the top 10 with 1981 being 'The Year of the A's" when they won the National title and ended the season with a 53-11 record. They finished 3rd in 1988; 4th in 1979, 1998, 2005 and 2013; 5h in 1983 and 7th in 1987, 1993, 2000, and 2004. Von Hayes who is currently on the coaching staff was on the NBC All-Tournament Team, Leading Hitter and Most Home Runs in Tourney in 1979.
